• Dartmouth market traders in council talks

  Dartmouth town councillors are holding face-to-face talks with their Dartmouth market trader tenants to try and thrash out a solution to the opening hours row.
  The Dartmouth businesses have been warned that they could be booted out of their town council-owned market shop units unless they start living up to the opening hours dictated by their leases.
  Now the councillors aim to meet with the tenants to talk about the opening hours – and also to discuss how the council can help market the market complex better.
  It was revealed that the council is trying to sort out a date for the meeting which will be going ahead at the Dartmouth Guildhall and will most likely involve the town council’s corporate property committee chairman Robin Springett and mayor Paul Allen.
  For some time now the market tenants have been pressing the town council to do more to give the market complex a greater public profile. But at the same time there have been complaints that some traders do not open their shops long enough during the day and some do not open at all for long periods during the winter months.
