• Ukulele players from Modbury entertained the Dartmouth Pensioners Group

  Ukulele players from Modbury entertained the Dartmouth Pensioners Group at lunch at the Community Cafe in The Old Market Square.
  Over 30 members of the pensioners group enjoyed music from a group of ukulele players from Modbury, the Uk’n’Sing band.
  Started a couple of years ago by Neal Barker, the Vicar in Modbury, the Uk’n’Sing used to meet mid-week with 6 or 7 players.
  Jeff Booth, who now leads, said: “There’s 30 of us in total who meet mid-week but we’re 12 today for the Dartmouth pensioners.
  The ukulele is really easy to play. We’re an amateur group who play for charities. We do perhaps ten a year.
  The events can be purely social but we also help with memory loss clinics or other events.
  We have people from Newton Ferrers, Kingsbridge, East Allington, Dipford and Salcombe.
  We range in age but the average is probably around 60 but we do have all ages. We now meet at the Fishermans Rest in Aveton Gifford at 7.30pm on a Monday.
  “Last week we had guests at our Monday session from Germany. In the past, we’ve had guests from Exeter and London.
  Ricky Newland of the Dartmouth Pensioners Group said: “We try and arrange something each month. We usually get about 30 people and we try to offer some unique entertainment or a speaker.
  “We’re always open to new members and there are trips for them to consider.
  “In June we have one to Tiverton, a canal trip. In July we are going to Dartmoor and have arranged a cream tea.
